Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek and Korean Samsung recently entered into a supply agreement as part of its efforts to make its foray into the branded mobile phone market after its dominance in the white-label mobile phone market, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported on December 28. Pursuant to the agreement, MediaTek will supply mobile phone chipsets based on 2.5G and 2.75G technologies for Samsung's value-line mobile phones. Aside from Samsung, MediaTek already signed similar agreements with other brand-name mobile phone vendors, including LG and Motorola, according to the same source.
